Instead of pressing, assembling, painting and trimming the units, in 1982 Pininfarina took over the complete assembly, market the cars direct and even granted the privilege of rebadging their products. The Spider officially became a "Pininfarina Spider Europa". The name for the US-spider was "Azzurra".
